What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?

Skin resurfacing with a laser at Elan Med Spa and Clinic is a noninvasive aesthetic procedure that uses pulsating beams of light to eliminate dead and damaged skin layers. The procedure is great for reducing facial wrinkles and lines. It also minimizes skin blemishes, including pigmentation, acne scars, and other issues. Sometimes known as a laser peel, fractional skin resurfacing is an ideal treatment for people desiring softer, clearer, youthful-looking skin. Based on the needs of the skin, the treatment may be adjusted accordingly. There is some downtime needed for most laser skin resurfacing treatments. Any concerns or questions may be reviewed with our team during the consultation.

What to Expect With Skin Resurfacing Treatments

For milder resurfacing treatments, an ointment will be smoothed over the skin and you can return home to recover. The treated skin may look pink, and there will be some irritation and swelling, which should subside in a few days, and the skin peeling process will occur over a 3 – 5-day period. If you are undergoing a more intense laser procedure, your recovery time will last longer. The treated sections will most likely be covered by dressings, and the irritation, burning, and swelling symptoms may be stronger. Medication can be prescribed by our Elan Med Spa and Clinic team to minimize side effects. The treated skin will naturally flake, crust, and peel off. It is important for patients to avoid interfering with the healing process to keep from scarring and to protect their skin from UV exposure. After the peeling is finished, the treated skin will feel softer while looking clearer, rejuvenated, and younger.
